That penny is no longer worthless

I have to stop throwing my pennies out. Looks like the price of zinc has reached the point where the metal inside a penny is worth more than one cent.
Zinc passed the $1.80 mark today, that means the current "penny" has a melt value of $0.0101867. All the coins in your penny jar are worth more than their denomination.
Hopefully the public awareness of this news will finally convince Congress to eliminate the penny from circulation. The economy suffers because pennies are expensive to produce and because people tend to hoard them instead of spend them. (Thanks for the link, BDG)
