2006 Spelling Bee

One of the less interesting aspects of my week in Italy was a near blackout of information regarding United States news and sports scores. I had no cell phone, no internet access, and only one English channel, BBC World News, which gave just a smattering of non-Iraq news involving my fine country. So I figured that when I came home yesterday, I could enjoy watching the 2006 National Spelling Bee on my trusty DVR. That, of course, was spoiled when my dad watched BBC World News on Friday, which led to the following conversation:
BOB: Hey, a 13-year-old girl from New Jersey won the spelling bee.

ROB: Omigod, Kerry Close won? Gee...thanks for spoiling it!

MICHELLE: How did you know her name? That's creepy.

Well, those of you who realize my obsession with the spelling bee know that my home-state girl Kerry Close has been my favorite contestant for several years running. I'm still going to watch the 6+ hours of tape-delayed goodness; I'm thrilled that the little douche Samir Patel didn't win. GO KERRY!!! GO NEW JERSEY!!!
