Prognostication: Yankees in five

By Blogger Rob I, at 2:11 PM

Yanks in 5, what a clown this guy is, Yanks go down and out in 6..if they are lucky...

Veritek knocks A-Rod out by the first inning of game one. Sox in six. Series MVP Bronson Arroyo

After a woeful Division Series round of predictions (Dodgers in 3, Braves in 4, Twinkies in 5, Sox in 4) I'm officially out of the prognosticatin' game. And to be completely honest I don't have a clue what to expect. Sox sweep, outscoring the Yanks 37-10? Wouldn't surprise me. Yanks in 5, winning all 3 games in Boston as the Fenway crowd commits the world's largest ever mass suicide? Not a shocker.

The only thing I think would surprise me would be for this series to go seven again. These two teams played one of the all-time great series against each other a year ago. They played the Best Regular Season Game Ever back in July. I just don't see this series living up to the hype. I can't tell you who's going to win, but I'd be willing to bet that it won't go to a seventh game.

The real question is whether anyone outside of Missouri, southern Illinois, and east Texas will even notice or care that the Cards and 'Stros are playing in the NLCS. Has series with that much star power ever been so completely overshadowed? (Not that I'm against this overshadowing, mind you; those teams are just about as uninteresting as they are talented.)

Yay mass suicide! Hey kids...enjoy the "moral victory". While you're busy silently congratulating yourselves for *almost* beating the Yankees, we're on the field collecting real live wins!

By Blogger Rob I, at 8:18 AM

There was no moral vitcory here, it's simply the observation that last night, we saw the best pitching the Yankees will produce the entire series, and we saw the worst of the Sox, and yet the Sox were able to turn a joke of a game into a 1 run game. The Sox will score 7 runs again, the Yankees wiil not score 10. I'm not taking anything away from the Yanks, Mussina was amazing through 6, and Matsui and Sheff hit some terrific pitches, but if you think Pedro will pitch like Schilling did last night, and you think Lieber will pitch like Mussina, you're dead wrong...

DCD, call me crazy, but didn't Lieber pitch like Mussina?

F him!
